Why Clear Mascara is a Good Choice

Why Clear Mascara is a Good Choice

Mascara is a beauty staple that does wonders for the eyes, but is clear mascara a good choice? We are all used to the traditional black or brown mascaras which opens and brightens up the eyes by adding volume and length to lashes. Mascaras, in a variety of formulas are easily available in beauty stores and even in drugstores. The most common is the clear mascara.

Clear mascaras are tubes of colorless gel that is used to give definition to eyes by separating and lengthening the lashes. Basic clear gel mascara does not do much unlike other mascara formulas that add volume, extend or curl eyelashes. But there are reasons why clear mascara is a good choice.

  • It is not heavy on the eyes. Colorless mascara thickens and elongates your lashes without making you look so made up. It is great for looking natural and is perfect for teens.
  • It will not smudge. Unlike colored mascara, clear ones don’t leave marks on your eye area and don’t streak off when you accidentally get wet or cry.
  • It serves its purpose and more. Gel mascara polishes your look and offers the same impact as formulated mascaras. It can also be used as ordinary gel to keep stray hair in place.
  • It is economical. Basic gel mascara is cheaper than luxurious, formulated ones.
  • It is easy to remove. Gel mascara is not as thick as others and easily washes off.

Today, shopping for basic mascara is not so easy anymore. Cosmetic companies have incorporated new features such as curved brushes, conditioning formulas and water-proof ability.

Here is a list of some of the best clear mascara.

  • Maybelline Clear Gel Mascara for Lash and Brow – gel mascara that contains Panthenol which conditions lashes and brows.
  • Max Factor No Color Mascara, Clear 0000 – clear, lightweight gel for enhancing lashes. Its rich-conditioning formula softens lashes making it look supple and shiny.
  • CoverGirl Professional Natural Lash Mascara, Clear 800 – smudge-proof, clear conditioning mascara that provide definition to lashes. It is hypoallergenic and can be washed off easily.
  • e.l.f. Professional Wet Gloss Lash and Brow Clear Mascara – provides healthy-looking lashes in an instant with its enriched protein conditioners and rapid dry technology. It is hypoallergenic and water-resistant. It can be used alone or as a primer.
  • Sephora Professional Clear Natural Mascara – accentuates lashes by separating and curling. It can also be used to tame brows.

Using clear gel mascaras to give lashes definition only works well for women who have naturally long and dark lashes. So for women who have short lashes colorless mascaras can be used in the following ways:

  • As an eyelash primer before applying colored mascara or eyelash glitter powder
  • As an eyebrow gel. Make sure to groom your eyebrow first for good results. You may consider eyebrow waxing to remove excess eyebrow hair.
  • As a retouch mascara to avoid clumping of colored mascaras

As with any other beauty treatment staple, it is important to know how to properly apply gel mascara to avoid mishaps that can mess up your makeup or hurt your eyes.

Basic

  • Apply a thin coat of colorless mascara after you have applied your eye shadow and eyeliner. Allow to dry.
  • For extra long lashes, use an eyelash curler.
  • Apply another coat of colorless mascara. This time make sure that you cover all the lashes. Start applying mascara from the inside lashes and out. Use a wiggling motion to prevent your lashes from clumping.
  • Apply mascara on your lower lashes to open and brighten up your eyes even more.
  • Use an eyelash comb if necessary.

As a primer

  • Apply clear gel mascara on lashes. Allow it to dry.
  • Curl lashes with an eyelash curler.
  • Apply colored mascara.

Remember that the eyes are fragile and are prone to irritations which is why you have to keep your mascaras and other eye cosmetics clean and bacteria-free.

Here are tips on how to stay clear of irritations when using mascara.

  • Never share your mascara or any of your makeup. A mascara brush may pick up a virus off someone’s eye and contaminate yours.
  • Avoid contact with eyes. The gel of the mascara contains ingredients that may possibly cause stinging and redness.
  • Clean your mascara applicator regularly. Tap it with a tissue after every use.

If your skin is prone to breakouts, you might want to use organic clear mascara to avoid irritating the eye area. Organic clear mascara is gentler and is less likely to break you out.
